Classical Music Study

We listened to Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf" while baking cookies this afternoon. This playful piece has been added to our beginners collection of classical music. We are starting to really appreciate all forms of music, but I have really been emphasizing classical so that the boys understand the history of music.
This upcoming school year, we are studying one composer a week and listening to their compositions. In order to accomplish our goal, I recently purchased The NPR Listener's Encyclopedia of Classical Music from www.amazon.com. I am more than thrilled with this 900+ page guide to classical music. It has over 1,500 entries and more than 2,000 recommended recordings. It also introduced me to www.naxos.com. The boys will be able to hear incredible classical music for very little cost.
